Sometimes you just have to

One thing that comes clearer and clearer as I move into the dissertating phase is the importance of doing things that are fun, relaxing, or in some way inspiring. As we packed our house up, I balked at putting my paints, brushes, and easel in storage. It’s not like I make much time to paint, but it is the thought that I canthat relaxes me.

It took only a week of being alone in a new city before I started hunting down an art supply store. Knowing that I’d need to pack whatever I got, I kept it simple. A Gelly Roll 06, a tiny drafting set, and a 6″ x 8″ drawing pad.

I’ve been mostly doing face and figure studies, but today I tried something different.

That is gorgeous!!! As I know we’ve talked about before, finding things that are not academic and not related to our work are so important for our survival and our mental and emotional health. So glad you’ve found such a lovely outlet during your time in D.C.
